Screw banff... Go there for a day maybe,
Hit up Canmore instead. Better mountains to climb, reasonable pricing on everything, and just overall a nicer place. Its only 10-15mins east of banff. Watch out for lake louise too, its extremely touristy, very nice place though... Probally not as bad in may.
If you are into hiking, all of these places have geat spots, ive been to all of them for extended periods of time. In may, if you want to hike some mountains, there will probally be snow above the treeline, but paths are always made. I would strongly suggest the hike 'chinamans peak'. Its really easy, 2 hour hike that give you an amazing view where the rockies hit the foothills, its really cool.
If you have to cut things short, skip price george. Yoho has amazing mountaineering and would be cool to see, but im not really sure if there is much more then that.
If your into biking, the northshore of vancouver is great (but I warn you, almost everyone can get in much over their head with a wrong turn). There are also some great hiking trails on these mountains. Its surreal on them, you are in a big city, but on a little traveled mountain.
Any specific questions just ask, ive spend 3 summers hiking, driving, biking, climbing around all these areas. Some of my friends say I am the ultimate tour guide to the canmore area. haha.. Ive climbed almost every peak in this area and biked/climbed most trails. Amazing place.
Anyway you do it, its going to be an awesome trip. You really cant go wrong anywhere.
