Tony, in all likelihood, his hip flexors are tight (from being a desk jockey) and his gluteals are asleep ... he would initially benefit from a MM type program focusing on releasing the hip flexors and getting the glutes firing again. If the deterioration is only "slight" then it is probably not the source of his pain, but rather the muscle imbalance around his hip is the more likely culprit.
I'm sure his doctor would refer him to physical therapy ... would he be open to going? Sometimes family members don't want to hear it from another family member ... they need to hear it from a "professional" ...
