Somethings, like crab cakes, are hard to safely alter. Not a cheap meal to experiment with either. I use crab and egg for mine then put them in the fridge for a bit to set up. They usually fall apart. The easiest thing to do is get a bushell of crabs, season with Old Bay, steam, then eat.

For b sprouts. Steam until just done. Pan saute roast some pecans then toss the sprouts into the pan, shake a few times until the sprouts start to brown. If you're not handy with a pan you can use a little butter to help them brown.

My ex used to experiment, some of the stuff was horrible. She'd take perfectly good veggies then put them in a pan and cook until brown. Ugh, stir fry doesn't have to mean burned.
