No, you are not too young.. I would recommend that you lift lighter weights and keep your rep range higher. I would try to stay in the 10-12 range for reps with 3-4 sets.. You should be able to finish your last set, before going up in weight..

The idea being that you are building the strength in the tendons as well as the muscle, helping everything to develop together..
