I totally agree with the whole specificity of training idea.
I used to do (for example) 6-8 weeks strength followed by 6-8 weeks hpyertrophy followed by....
what i found was that i got stronger but no bigger then bigger but lose the strength, i was constantly trying to get back what i had just lost.
I have found the westside
www.westside-barbell.com method to be very effective as your are constantly trying to break records and i found that as long as your nutrition is correct then you can add mass too.
Just put this on because i know what its like to be stuck in a rut
