Brain,
As a CSCS and the parents of a high school baseball player, I read all your materials with gratitude. You are spreading the word for a better world for youth athletics.
I am currently reading Eric Cressey's
Ultimate Off-Season Training Manual, and in the Introduction, before moving on to details on how to specialize, he echos your sentiments regarding specializing in a specific sport too early. And he paints a picture of positive changes for the future.
Quote:
In spite of the insistence of some overbearing individuals in positions of authority in youth sports, we're gradually coming to realize that early sports specialization is rarely a good thing.
We need to let our young athletes develop, not specialize.
Ideally, we'll someday see an altogether elimination of year-round organized competitve seasons that typify youth sports like basketball and soccer.

Thanks for all your work.
