With a young kid I would keep it very moderate in every aspect. No need to go crazy high with anything, just get him eating more and more often. High carb intake with moderate protein and fat would be a good start. Not sure how he eats now but spread his food intake out to 5-6 meals and slowly increase the amount he is eating.
