squats won't help your pullups. Try doing lat pulldowns, or assisted pullups. Keep adding weight just like you would any other exercise, and eventually you'll get there. Do them often but not too often or you might find it'll just get worse. If you hit a plateau doing chinups, add a couple pounds - at first you might not be able to do as many reps as if you were lifting bodyweight, but keep at it and try to do a few more reps each time you do them. After doing that for a while you'll find you can do a lot more than you used to be able to do with just bodyweight. There was a thread on this a while ago in the training forum, do a search you should be able to find it.

And major action will certainly make you feel a bit uncomfortable, which is absolutely fine. You've gotta get excited about feeling uncomfortable, you've gotta love feeling slightly uncomfortable, because you know that you're stepping outside the boundaries that you used to create.
