Yes, there are simple sugars in this recipe and all-purpose flour too, but a couple of cookies is a meal.

The cookie mix

1/3*cup*butter, softened
2/3*cup*packed brown sugar
1/2*teaspoon*ground cinnamon
1/4*teaspoon*baking soda
1*egg
3/4*cup*applesauce
1 1/4*cups*all-purpose flour
1 1/4*cups oats
1/2 cup whey protein (unflavoured)
---------------------------------------
The rest

1/4 cup flax seeds
1/2 cup to 1 cup each of slivered almonds, sunflower seeds, dried apple chunks, or dried fruit chunks (I've used apricots, and papayas), chocolate chips, and just about anything else you might enjoy in a cookie.

Basically, you mix everything, then bake at 350F. I go by the consistency of the mix. You need enough cookie mix to hold everything together. These cookies don't really rise or expand or flatten out too much in the oven, so whatever shape you bake them in, is the shape and approximate size they'll end up being. I've made these cookies with my younger cousins and usually put out a spread of choices they can put into the cookie (I pretend the almonds and flax seeds are part of the base recipe). They're more likely to want to eat something they made a decision about.
